Charging Guns

How can we help build a world in which passengers have access to Level III DC (Direct Current) fast-charging infrastructure? A key piece of that puzzle is the reliability of charging guns (connectors).

Incorporating our thermally conductive, silicone protection and assembly materials into charging gun designs can bring a more reliable driving experience to consumers and significantly enhance the EV charging process – improving reliability, safety, functionality, and efficiency.

Thermal Management

We have a wide range of high-performance silicone materials designed to support the transfer and release of heat generated from high-current charging gun cables, including:

  • Silicone heat transfer fluid
  • High-consistency silicone rubbers (HCR)
  • Liquid silicone rubbers (LSR)
  • Sealants and adhesives
  • Encapsulants and pottants
  • Gap fillers

Protection and Assembly

Interiors of printed circuit board (PCB) modules, charging gun connectors and charging housing cabinets contain sensitive components, such as capacitors, semiconductors and magnetic devices, and  power devices with high heat output.

DOWSIL™ silicone conformal coatings, pottants and encapsulants can be used in rigid and flexible circuit boards, connector pin sealing, sensitive components, and other fine-pitched designs to protect against environmental contaminants and heat while meeting varied reliability standards.

Engineering Resins

Public charging guns can face harsh weather conditions ad heavy use. To endure these challenges an extend lifespan, the thermoplastics in charging gun housing and handles need to be modified with additives.

PARALOID™️ Impact Modifiers enhance toughness and impact resistance, even at low temperatures, in various engineering resins for EV charging guns. Our modifiers also support processability and mechanical recyclability for reuse in other demanding applications.

Charging Cables & Busbars

Smarter, more intuitive, and more electric vehicles mean more complicated internal components. Electrical cables and wire connectors play an important role in vehicle design, whether it’s for converting voltage, streamlining communication, or enabling faster charging. With silicones, smaller more complex designs can be achieved.
