On 11 September 2020, issue no. 116 of the Official Journal of the Italian Republic published Legislative Decree no. 3 of September 2020, which implements EU Directive 2018/851 on waste and EU Directive 2018/852 on packaging and packaging waste. 

Plastic Packaging Tax came into force for several countries (e.g. UK, Spain). Manufacturers of plastic packaging, EU purchasers and importers of plastic packaging, business customers of manufacturers and importers of plastic packaging, and consumers who buy plastic packaging or goods in plastic packaging in those countries are impacted by this new tax.

On 01.01.2019 the Packaging Act (VerpackG) came into force in Germany. The new law replaces old packaging regulations. The amended Packaging Act implements two EU directives, the Single-Use Plastics Directive and the Waste Framework Directive, into German law and has been in force since 03.07.2021.

Manufacturers (fillers) and distributors of packaged materials are obligated to take back empty packaging after use and to ensure reconditioning or recycling. The place of take back needs to be agreed upon with the user of the material that is packaged. For industrial packaging the manufacturer of the filled packaging may either carry out this obligation himself directly or work with a Recycling Partner to fulfill the legal requirement.

As far as Dow is concerned, we have selected to work with different Recycling Partners to fulfill the obligation.
